Having a kickass Pinterest profile is a crucial foundation for a Pinterest account that drives traffic to your blog.
I had only been blogging for 6 months when I hit 20k monthly visitors from Pinterest to my blog for the first time. And, as I’ve discovered, traffic from Pinterest lasts – my traffic from Pinterest has been steady for the past 6 months, even though I’ve cut way back on the amount of time I devote to growing my Pinterest account: from 1 hour a day to 1 hour a week. I’ve set up my Pinterest account to drive traffic to my blog organically. And it all starts with my Pinterest profile.
Did you know that Pinterest ranks its users based on how much engagement their content & profile receive? Every time someone clicks into one of your boards, or looks at your profile and decides to follow you, or gets sucked into a Pinterest hole and obsessively repins everything in all of your boards (don’t act like you’ve never done this. I CAN’T be the only Pinterest addict here) Pinterest is silently giving you a nod of approval.

I’m currently working my way through these tips! (great post 🙂 ) but have a question – are you deleting pins that you’ve had to repin from participating in ‘repin’ pinterest groups? Basically none of these have ANY repins so going by the at least 10 repin rule i’d have to delete them all…At the moment I’m keeping the pretty ones, and hoping I’ve left it long enough to avoid being accused of not repinning… (The politics!)
What’s your advice?
That’s a great question. If it’s been like 6 months or more, I’d say it’s safe to delete them. Otherwise, keep them … but maybe move them to their own board, or a group board that is a better fit for their niche. The main thing to focus on is your aesthetic for the top 100 or so pins – if that looks good, don’t worry about what’s down below unless you’re using an automatic “looping” tool!
Where can you get the number of times a pin has been re-pinned for step 5? It seems to have disappeared.
When you’re logged into your account and view your own pins, you’ll see the numbers underneath your pins. You can also click the “Analytics” link in the upper-left of your screen.

Just wondering if it’s advisable to do a DESIGN makeover to other people’s pins if you want to repin them to your boards? Should I add text overlays…or just leave them as they are?

Interesting and inspirational tips. As you have mentioned removing “ugly pins”. Normally, I used to see so many “ugly profiles” following me. These profiles are appearing with 0 boards and 0 pins. Whether we should block them for cleanup or leave it like that. I used to block them some times. Pls, your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I’m no expert but my feeling is the changes wouldn’t mean we’d have to factor anything differently from what you’ve advised here?
